Global Change Committee Norway

The Research Council of Norway has appointed a this Global Change Committee for the period 1.10.2009 to 31.12.2012. The Committee acts as a link between Norwegian and international research on global environmental change and serves as a Norwegian contact point for IHDP. The Committee supports the efforts of the Research Council to enhance and coordinate research on global environmental change. The aim is to achieve a cohesive, interdisciplinary approach to this research and to act as strategic adviser to the Research Council within the field. The committee also plays a key role in information and dissemination efforts related to research on international global change, and is a hub for the Norwegian research community. It disseminates information about relevant activities on its own as well, for example, by organizing workshops and seminars. The Global Change Committee promotes close contact between Norwegian research groups and the international research community within the field and between players from the research and public administration sectors. Besides serving as a Norwegian linkage to IHDP, the Global Change Committee focuses on Norway's relations with the other international global change programmes of the Earth System Science Partnership: the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), the DIVERSITAS programme (biodiversity science) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). The Committee will further encourage closer ties to global change research being carried out under the auspices of EU programmes and will act as the Research Council's consultative body in scientific matters related to the Norwegian membership of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).
